Quick Safety Tip: Holding the Steering Wheel Correctly

Previously, positioning your hands at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock were considered correct, however, the implementation of air bags as a standard feature of vehicles today has meant a reconsideration on this safety tip.

Placing your hands at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock on the steering wheel will provide you with better protection should you be in an accident whereby your air bags are deployed. The new steering wheel holding position is advised as a means to ensure there is more room for the air bag to open. This can reduce the potential of burns and can also remove the ability for the deploying air bag to push on your arms which may result in serious injury.
